Spanish Law 12/1986 of 1 April recognises the full professional powers and responsibilities of technical engineers within their respective fields of specialisation and expressly includes the preparation of expert assessments, studies and reports .
In the field of information technology, the Resolution of 31 March 2026 of the General Secretariat for Universities expressly includes, among the competences associated with official university qualifications leading to the profession of Technical Engineer in Information Technology, the knowledge required to carry out measurements, calculations, valuations, appraisals, expert assessments, studies and information technology reports .
Entrusting a digital forensic examination to a person who cannot provide evidence of an official university degree in Computer Engineering may seriously compromise the defence of the case.
